Meet the team

Graham has always had a passion for helping people. In 2009, he decided to combine this passion with his business experience by becoming a business coach with a global coaching firm. During this time Graham became their number one coach in South Africa and was ranked in their top 50 coaches worldwide. Graham then expanded by setting up GROW which today has coached hundreds of business owners on how to grow their sales, manage the finances in their business, and build successful teams, so that their businesses can make more money and require less of their time.

Graham qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG after finishing top of his honours class at University. He then spent 7 years as a corporate finance advisor. During this time, he advised clients such as MTN, Toyota, Combined Motor Holdings, Eskom and several South African Private Equity Funds on their corporate acquisitions and disposals. He then joined Houses for Africa, Inc., a newly formed pan-African housing developer, as their Chief Operating Officer. He was responsible for securing $55 million of funding to establish a large-scale housing project in Lusaka, Zambia and for expanding the company’s operations into Abuja, Nigeria.

Graham enjoys working with business owners who have started and built a successful business, but have reached a point where they are battling to grow their business further. Graham helps develop systems and teams that allow the business to keep growing beyond the need for the owner’s time.

James joined GROW to pursue his passion to help impact the lives of business owners and their teams. James started his career by studying Economics and Marketing at the University of Natal, and then obtaining a PDM from Wits Business School.

After obtaining his offshore yacht skipper’s license and spending time travelling and working in London, James returned to South Africa and joined Ernst & Young in their Business Advisory Team, providing business improvement and strategic consulting services. In 2008, he was head hunted to join an international boutique consulting firm, SAHA International. James has advised clients such as IBM, National Treasury, BP, Independent News and Media Group, the 2010 Soccer World Cup LOC and Transnet on business and improvement strategies. At Rea Vaya, Africa’s first Bus Rapid Transit system, he set up and spearheaded a project to establish the necessary operational capabilities, which allowed the Rea Vaya transport system to increase passenger capacity from 1,000 to up 40,000 people per day.

James’ experience as a strategic business advisor has given him the ability to guide management through the changes needed to make their organisations more successful.

James enjoys working with business owners who have started and built a successful business, but have reached a point where they are battling to grow their business further. James helps them through the process of taking their business to the next level.

Julie joined GROW from a long career in Marketing and Advertising, in order to develop business owners and their teams, and so help them build stronger, more profitable businesses.

Before joining GROW, Julie sat on the Executive Committee of Aqua, a large marketing agency, and headed up the integrated insights and intelligence hub responsible for delivering Marketing, CRM, Brand and Digital strategy for a range of brands. This included a multi-disciplinary team covering Strategy, Analytics, Media and Social Media. In addition to this she was responsible for establishing and running the Aqua Training Academy.

She holds a Bachelor of Journalism honours degree from Rhodes University and an MDP from UNISA School of Business Leadership as well as the Professional Certificate in Coaching from Henley Business School.

Before joining Aqua in 2010, Julie headed up the overall Marketing team at Lexus, where she was instrumental in relaunching the brand to the local market. Before that she spent seven years at BMW, working across a range of Marketing disciplines including digital marketing; direct marketing and CRM; PR and internal communications and Market Research.

Julie has over 16 years broad marketing and communications experience across all aspects of advertising, communications and public affairs on both the client and agency side across a range of industries including financial services, health/wellness, entertainment, automotive; retail; travel/hospitality, telecommunications; and FMCG.

Beyond this she is passionate about people development, mentoring and leadership. In this capacity she has worked in a coaching role for WPP in association with the international executive development firm, Exetor, fulfilling this role on international programmes in Turkey and the UK.

Sakhile has a passion for entrepreneurship and growing businesses and joined GROW to follow this passion.

Following matric Sakhile studied a diploma in ministerial training and then worked as a youth coordinator at Rhema Church for three years . Sakhile then received a Fellowship through Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, which is a scholarship given to only a few select individuals each year who show entrepreneurial potential.

Through this scholarship Sakhile completed a B.Com degree, an honours degree in Strategic Management and is currently completing his masters in Entrepreneurship at the Wits Business School.

Andrew left his executive role in the IT industry to build on his passion for the 3-way combination of business, entrepreneurship and developing people. Andrew is passionate about the contribution that high impact entrepreneurialism delivers to the economies of developing countries, and the positive effect such economic contribution has on communities and the people of those countries.

Andrew holds a BSc Electrical Engineering Honours degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. He started out his career at a Siemens firm that developed the very first prepayment electricity metering technology in the country. His time there also included a 2 year secondment to Siemens in Nurnberg, Germany.

Matthias joined GROW having fulfilled numerous management and leadership positions over the past 25 years. In his experience as a teacher, national rowing coach and director in a motor retail business he has developed a passion for helping business leaders, develop their leadership skills, helping them lead their teams more effectively and build more profitable businesses.

Matthias completed a masters’ degree in management coaching from the University of Stellenbosch Business school. Together with his teaching, sports coaching and business work experience he is uniquely qualified to assist business leaders in maximising their leadership potential, business skills necessary to help them grow their businesses and maximise all desired performance outcomes.

The last three years have seen a tremendous growth in our business.
